Etymology: Partly (in α. forms) < the genitive of Dingaan, variant (in Afrikaans and English) of the name of Dingane kaSenzangakhona (c1795–1840), king of the Zulu Kingdom from 1828 + apricot n.; and partly (in β. forms) < the name of Dingaan + apricot n.
South African.
In KwaZulu-Natal province (formerly Natal): the kei apple, Dovyalis caffra, a thorny shrub or small tree with edible yellow fruits; (also) a fruit of this plant.
