Designating Chinese ceramics of a type produced in the Dingzhou prefecture from the 8th cent. until the 14th cent., typically having a thin, white porcelain (or porcelain-like) body, an ivory-tinted transparent glaze, and often carved or (from the 11th cent.) moulded decoration. Frequently in Ding ware.Ding ware is also called Dingyao (see Dingyao n.). It was first produced under the Tang dynasty and is widely regarded as having reached its peak under the Song dynasty in the 11th cent.
