(ed. 4) vi. 229 For these reasons it appears that Endogens contain three distinct types of organization, namely, Spermogens and Sporogens, or Rhizanths, the former of which consists 1. of true Endogens with striated inarticulated leaves, and 2. of false Endogens with reticulated disarticulating leaves, or Dictyogens.
1857 M. J. Berkeley Introd. Cryptogamic Bot. §39. 52 Dictyogens are supposed to approach Exogens in their leaves and in the arrangement of their tissues, but their embryo and the development of their wood are distinctly monocotyledonous.
1867 tr. L. Figuier Veg. World ii. 322 He [sc. Lindley] calls them Dictyogens, from the netted structure of their foliage.
1909 R. G. Hatton Craftsman's Plant-bk. v. 39 Classed now with endogens are those plants—such as Black Bryony and Smilax—which Lindley formerly ranked as Dictyogens.
