Used attributively to designate various articles produced or animals reared in Devonshire, or characteristic of Devonshire, as Devonshire cake, Devonshire cider, Devonshire pie, Devonshire pottery, Devonshire sheep, Devonshire tea; Devonshire cream n. a thick clotted cream. Devonshire slipper n. (see quot. 1921). Devonshire wainscot n. a species of moth, Leucania putrescens (see wainscot n. 4). ΚΠ 1747 H.
