Etymology: < French dicline (1793 in Hatzfeld & Darmesteter) or Botanical Latin Diclines , plural (Jussieu 1779), < Greek δι- twice, double (di- comb. form) + κλίνη bed, couch: see -ous suffix. (A. L. de Jussieu gave the name Diclines irregulares to the 15th class of his arrangement of the Natural Orders.)
Botany.
Having the stamens and pistils on separate flowers, either on the same plant (monœcious), or on separate plants (diœcious). Also said of the flowers (= unisexual).
