Origin: Formed within English, by compounding; modelled on a German lexical item. Etymons: dicho- comb. form, otic adj.
Etymology: < dicho- comb. form + otic adj., after German dichotisch (C. Stumpf 1905, in Zeitschr. f. Psychol. u. Physiol. der Sinnesorgane 39 276, attributed to H. Diels). Compare earlier diotic adj. and monotic adj.
Physiology and Psychology.
Involving the simultaneous presentation of a different stimulus to each ear; (also) designating such stimuli. Cf. diotic adj., monotic adj.
