allegatev.

Brit. /ˈalᵻɡeɪt/, U.S. /ˈæləˌɡeɪt/
Forms: late Middle English allegate (past participle), late Middle English– allegate, 1500s allygate.
Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin allēgāt-, allēgāre.
Etymology: < classical Latin allēgāt-, past participial stem (see -ate suffix3) of adlēgāre, allēgāre to send as an intermediary or representative, to commission, to adduce, urge, plead, in post-classical Latin also to allege, assert as fact (frequently from 11th cent. in British sources), to plead, argue (frequently from 12th cent. in British sources), to confirm (15th cent. in a British glossarial source) < al- , variant of ad- ad- prefix + legāre legate v. Compare Old French, Middle French alleguer , aleguer , French alléguer (see allege v.1). In English apparently identified with and used interchangeably with allege v.1: see further discussion at that entry. Compare also allegation n.
transitive. = allege v.1 (in various senses). Now uncommon in comparison to allege.
