Etymology: < ancient Greek δίχα asunder, apart (see dicho- comb. form) + στάσις (see stasis n.), apparently irregularly after dichastic adj. Compare earlier (with different sense) dichostasy n. N.E.D. (1895) gives the pronunciation as (dəikæ·stăsis) /daɪˈkæstəsɪs/.

Zoology. Obsolete. rare. Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
