Etymology: < modern French déraillement (cited by Bescherelle 1845, from F. Tourneaux 1841), < dérailler : see derail v. Introduced from French c1850: at first chiefly used in U.S.
Said of a railway train, etc.: The fact of leaving or being thrown off the rails.
