Etymology: Apparently < dare v.1 (compare forms at that entry) + do v. + -ing suffix2, after derring-do n.If the formation were instead from dere n. the expected sense would be ‘that does harm or works mischief’.
Obsolete. rare.
A pseudo-archaism of Spenser, apparently from dare-do taken as a compound verb, with participle in -ing suffix1 (cf. derring-do n.) taken in the sense ‘Doing daring deeds’.
