Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin daemonolatria.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin daemonolatria (1597 in a work title, or earlier; 1595 in a work title as daemonolatreia ) < daemono- demono- comb. form + -latria -latry comb. form).
The worship of a demon or demons. Frequently with reference to supernatural beings perceived as idols or false gods (cf. demon n. 1b). In quot. 1655 referring to Nicholas Remy's Daemonolatreiae Libri Tres (1595).
