1916 J. J. Sederholm in Bull. Comm. Géol. Finlande IX. xlviii. 142 It would be advisable to discriminate between..metasomatic changes which belong to a later period of metamorphism, i.e. are secondary in the strictest sense of the word, and those which have taken place in direct continuation of the consolidation of the magma of the rock itself. I propose to call the latter deuteric, as distinct from secondary changes.
1929 Econ. Geol. XXIV. 101 I thus conclude that the term deuteric is established as covering those metasomatic changes in igneous rocks caused by the reaction between the minerals already formed and the emanations..which have been given off from the same magma from which the rock itself crystallized.
1946 Nature 10 Aug. 206/2 In the deuteric or late stage there was a development of concentrations of titaniferous magnetite, apatite and other accessory minerals.
1967 K. D. Watson in P. J. Wyllie Ultramafic & Related Rocks ix. v. 319/2 Some of the calcite in the kimberlite at Bachelor Lake is probably deuteric.
