释义

descensiveadj.

Brit. /dᵻˈsɛnsɪv/, U.S. /dəˈsɛnsɪv/, /diˈsɛnsɪv/
Forms: late Middle English 1600s descensiue, late Middle English 1600s 1800s– descensive.

Etymology: < post-classical Latin descensivus (in music, of pitch) descending (13th cent. in a British source), having the quality of descending (1363 in Chauliac) < classical Latin dēscēns- , past participial stem of dēscendere descend v. + -ivus -ive suffix. Compare post-classical Latin descensive (adverb) by (hereditary) descent (1313 in a British source), successively, in order (1313 in a continental source). Compare later ascensive adj.
