Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin dēlitēscent-, dēlitēscens.
Etymology: < classical Latin dēlitēscent-, dēlitēscens, present participle of dēlitēscere (also dēlitiscere) to go into hiding, to be concealed < dē- de- prefix + latēscere (see latescent adj.). Compare earlier delitescence n.Compare Middle French delitescent (1530 in an apparently isolated attestation). N.E.D. (1895) also gives the pronunciation (dīlitesĕnt) /ˈdiːlɪtɛsənt/.
Hidden, concealed; latent, dormant.
