Etymology: < classical Latin dēligātus (18th cent. or earlier in post-classical Latin specifically with reference to blood vessels), past participle of dēligāre to bind fast (see deligation n.1) + -ed suffix1. Compare earlier deligation n.1, deligature n., and later deligate v. N.E.D. (1895) gives the pronunciation as (de·ligeitėd) /ˈdɛlɪɡeɪtɪd/.
Surgery. Obsolete.
Of a blood vessel or other structure: tied off with a suture, clip, etc.; ligated.
