单词 ambreada
释义

ambreadan.

Forms: 1700s amberada, 1700s ambreada.
Origin: Probably a borrowing from Portuguese. Etymon: Portuguese ambreada.
Etymology: Probably < Portuguese ambreada (although this is first attested later: 1818 or earlier) < ambrear to make lustrous like amber (1818 or earlier; < ambra amber n.2) + -ada -ade suffix.Compare French †ambreade (1748 in the passage translated in quot. 1751), Spanish ambreada (1906 or earlier as noun in this sense; 1867 or earlier as feminine form of an adjective in the sense ‘amber-coloured’). The form amberada perhaps shows remodelling after amber n.2 N.E.D. (1884) gives the pronunciation as (ɑmbriˌā·dă) /ɑːmbriːˈɑːdə/, /æmbriːˈɑːdə/.
Obsolete. rare. Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
Artificial amber used by Europeans for trading in West Africa.
