Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin ambiloquus , -ous suffix.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin ambiloquus equivocal (from 12th cent. in glossarial sources; < classical Latin ambi- ambi- prefix + -loquus speaking < loquī to speak: see loquent adj.) + -ous suffix. Compare earlier ambiloquent adj.
Now somewhat rare.
