Etymology: < classical Latin dēlectus (also dīlectus) selection, choice, (specifically) selection of soldiers by conscription, military draft, body of men enrolled, levy < dēlect- , past participial stem of dēligere to choose out, select ( < de- de- prefix + legere to gather, cull, choose: see lection n.) + -tus, suffix forming verbal nouns.
