Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French defesable.
Etymology: < Anglo-Norman defesable (early 14th cent. or earlier in the legal sense; c1150 as defiesable in sense ‘impermanent’) < de- de- prefix + fesable that can be done (see feasible adj.), after defaire to undo (see defeat v.). Compare defeasible adj.
Law.
Chiefly of a right or interest: that can be terminated or annulled in the event of a specified occurrence or the fulfilment of a specified condition; = defeasible adj. 1.
