Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: all adv., good adj.
Etymology: < all adv. + good adj. In later use probably independently re-formed. Compare Old Icelandic algóðr.In Old English only in predicative use, in which the collocation could alternatively be interpreted as showing two words (eall all adv. and gōd good adj.) rather than a true compound. Compare also Middle English al godely (showing all adv. + goodly adj. in a similar context):a1425 J. Wyclif Sel. Eng. Wks. (1869) I. 10 God, Almiȝty, al witty, and al godely, cannot worche but ȝif he worche by mercy.
Esp. of God: entirely or infinitely good.
