Etymology: < post-classical Latin alexipyreticum (1628 or earlier), alexipyreticon (1638 in the passage translated in quot. 1682 at sense A.; compare earlier alexipyretum (1562 or earlier)) < ancient Greek ἀλεξι- warding off (see alexipharmacum n.) + πυρετός fever (see pyreto- comb. form) + post-classical Latin -icum , -icon -ic suffix. N.E.D. (1884) gives the pronunciation as (ăle:ksiˌpəire·tik) /əˌlɛksɪpaɪˈrɛtɪk/.
