A black oxide of iron and copper, CuFeO₂, found chiefly in crystalline form or as botryoidal crusts.

1873 Jrnl. Chem. Soc. 26 1107 Finer specimens were subsequently found in the collection of the museum of natural history. The name delafossite is proposed for it.

1968 M. H. Hey in Mineral. Mag. 36 651 Two new microanalyses of delafossite from Nizhniĭ Tagil (the type locality) and Kimberly, Nevada, confirm the accepted formula CuFeO₂.
