A planar cyclic anion, C₅H₅⁻, derived from cyclopentadiene, which has aromatic character and forms complexes with metal atoms, most notably sandwich compounds in which a metal atom is bonded between two parallel cyclopentadienyl rings. Abbreviated Cp.
