Etymology: < post-classical Latin Datisi (13th cent. in a British source), formed as a mnemonic < D- (in Darii Darii n.) + A , the symbol for the universal affirmative proposition (see A n. 6) + -t- , arbitrary element, apparently for euphony + I , the symbol for the particular affirmative proposition (see I n.¹ 4) + s- (in simplex conversio : see simple conversion at conversion n. 4) + I (see above).
