A name in Iran and some other parts of Asia for a desert, esp. a stony desert.

1950 W. B. Fisher Middle East xiii. 267 Firm sandy or stony stretches in which sand dunes (rig) may occur, giving a more ‘normal’ desert topography similar to that of Arabia or the Sahara. The term dasht is applied to this firm desert.
