Day Fishes Brit. & Ireland 215 The ‘dandy-line’ is used in herring fishery at Peterhead..A piece of lead about 1½ lb. in weight is attached to a line, which carries at short intervals transverse pieces of whalebone or cane, having unbaited hooks at either end. Herrings are such hungry fish that they fly at the naked hooks, and are easily caught in this manner.
