Etymology: < Dad's Army, the name of a British television comedy series (1968–77) set in a fictional Home Guard unit during the Second World War < the genitive of dad n.1 + army n.The title of the television series was apparently suggested by Michael Mills (1919–88), head of BBC Comedy and Light Entertainment, as a replacement for the initial working title, The Fighting Tigers.
