crowned eagle n. either of two crested eagles: (a) the blackish-grey and very large Stephanoaetus coronatus, of sub-Saharan Africa (also crowned hawk-eagle); (b) the pale grey Harpyhaliaetus coronatus, of open woodland in South America (also crowned solitary eagle).
