Etymology: Either < alkali n. + -ized suffix, or < alkalize v. (although this is first attested slightly later) + -ed suffix¹, probably after French alcalisé treated with alkali (1589 in Middle French as alkalisé), made alkaline (1628 as alcalisee), impregnated with alkali (1665 as alkalisé).
