Etymology: < -blast comb. form + -ic suffix, after French -blastique and German -blastisch (for both see meroblastic adj.). Compare Hellenistic Greek βλαστικός springing forth.Apparently earliest in the borrowing meroblastic adj. Formations within English are found shortly afterwards, e.g. osteoblastic adj., mesoblastic adj.
