Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin cultrātus.
Etymology: < classical Latin cultrātus shaped like a knife (Pliny) < cultr- , culter knife, share (see coulter n.) + -ātus -ate suffix1. Compare earlier cultrated adj.
Botany and Zoology.
Formed like the blade of a knife or ploughshare; esp. curved with a pointed end, often with one flattened and one sharp edge, like a pruning knife. Cf. cultriform adj.
