Etymology: < post-classical Latin aliturgicus (1672 or earlier) < a- a- prefix⁶ + liturgicus liturgic adj. Compare French aliturgique without liturgy (1721 or earlier) and also ancient Greek ἀλειτούργητος exempt from public duty, in modern Greek (and perhaps earlier) also without liturgy (1677 or earlier). Compare earlier liturgic adj.

Christian Church. Now rare.

Designating a day on which the liturgy is not celebrated. Cf. aliturgical adj.
