Etymology: modern Latin, < the name of Pierre Curie (see curie n.) and his wife Marie (1867–1934): see -ium suffix.
An artificially produced, highly radioactive metallic element of the actinide series, formed when plutonium 239 is bombarded with alpha particles and when americium 241 is bombarded with neutrons. Symbol Cm, atomic number 96.
