1. An act of checking the accuracy or validity of an observation, theory, set of data, etc., by using an alternative method (or methods) of verification, comparing different sources of information, etc. Also (esp. in aviation: see note): an instance of two people reciprocally checking each other's work.In commercial aviation, cross checks are carried out by cabin crew at the beginning and end of a flight, especially to verify that the emergency slides deployed from the aircraft doors are armed or disarmed for departure or arrival.
