/ˈɔːldəni/, /ˈɒldəni/, U.S. /ˈɔldərni/, /ˈɑldərni/ Originally: a breed of small dairy cattle bred in Alderney. In later use chiefly: any of the Channel Island breeds of cattle, esp. the Jersey and the Guernsey. Also: an animal of such a breed. Frequently attributive.The last pure-bred Alderney cattle were destroyed in 1944.
