Etymology: < classical Latin crīmen crime n. + iniūriā, ablative of iniūria injury n., probably after classical Latin damnum iniūriā (more fully damnum iniūriā datum) damage unlawfully inflicted. Compare injuria n.
Law (chiefly South African).
In Roman-Dutch law: unlawful and intentional violation of the dignity of another person, such as that resulting from the use of obscene or racially offensive language or gestures.
