Etymology: < coxcomb n. + -ical suffix. Compare later coxcombic adj.In α. forms perhaps partly by association with comical adj., although forms without -b- are also found in other derivatives of coxcomb n.
Now rare.
1. Of a person: having the traits or qualities of a coxcomb; (originally) foolish (cf. coxcomb n. 4a); (later) vain, pretentiously affected, foppish.
