Medicine.
An acute disease in humans caused by a coronavirus, which is characterized mainly by fever and cough and is capable of progressing to pneumonia, respiratory and renal failure, blood coagulation abnormalities, and death, esp. in the elderly and people with underlying health conditions. Also: the coronavirus that causes this disease.Covid-19 was originally identified in China in December 2019 and became pandemic in 2020.The virus that causes Covid-19 was provisionally called 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCov) and formally named severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) in March 2020.
