单词 coverlet
释义

coverletn.

/ˈkʌvəlɪt/
Forms: Middle English couerlite, coverlite, coverlyt(e, coverlyth, cowyrlythe, curlet, keuerlit, keuerlyte, keweferlyte, kever-, koverlet, Middle English–1500s couerlet(t(e, 1500s couerlyght, couverlet, keuerlette, 1500s–1600s coverlett, Middle English– coverlet.
Etymology: The early form coverlite appears to represent an Old French *covre-lit ( < covrir to cover + lit bed). Examples of coverlit , coverlet occur in 14th cent. Anglo-Norman; but these may be from English. (Modern French couvre-lit is a neologism, suggested perhaps in part by English coverlet .) The variants in -let , -light , -led , -lid (see coverlid n.), etc., show that at an early date the composition of the word was unknown. With curlet compare also cure v.2
