Etymology: < air n.1 + cure n.1, originally (in quot. 1856) after movement cure n. at movement n. Compounds 2, water cure n., in later use (e.g. in quot. 1907) after German Luftkur (1846 or earlier; now rare except in Luftkurort village or town with exceptionally healthy air, lit. ‘air spa’ (c1850 or earlier)).
Medicine.
A method or course of medical treatment where the patient is exposed to the open air. Cf. water cure n. 1.
