alipiten.

Brit. /ˈalᵻpʌɪt/, U.S. /ˈæləˌpaɪt/
Forms:

α. 1800s alizite.

β. 1800s– alipite.

Origin: A borrowing from German. Etymon: German Alipit.
Etymology: < German Alipit ( E. F. Glocker Generum et specierum mineralium (1847) 178; < Hellenistic Greek ἀλιπής without fat, not greasy ( < ancient Greek ἀ- a- prefix6 + λιπος fat: see lipid n.) + German -it -ite suffix1), with remodelling of the ending after words in -ite suffix1. Compare post-classical Latin alipites (E. F. Glocker 1847, in the same source). The form alizite reflects German †Alizit (1852), apparently originally a misreading or typographical error for Alipit.
