Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin āliger , -ous suffix.
Etymology: < classical Latin āliger having wings, winged ( < āli- ali- comb. form + -ger : see -gerous comb. form) + -ous suffix. Compare aliferous adj. N.E.D. (1884) gives the pronunciation as (ăli·dʒĕrəs) /əˈlɪdʒərəs/.
Obsolete.
