corialn.

Brit. /ˌkɔːrɪˈɑːl/, U.S. /ˌkɔriˈɑl/, Caribbean English /ˈkoːriˌaːl/
Forms:

α. 1700s coriala, 1700s corialla.

Origin: Either (i) a borrowing from Island Carib. Or (ii) a borrowing from Cariban language. Etymons: Island Carib kuriàla; Dutch korjaal.
Etymology: Either < Island Carib (women's language) kuriàla, or < its etymon in a Cariban language (e.g. Akawaio kuriyara , Carib kurijara). In β. forms perhaps partly via Dutch korjaal (1796 as corjaal, (plural) corialen, or earlier); compare also Spanish corial (1874 or earlier, apparently rare). Compare ( < a Cariban language) Arawak kuljara, South American Spanish (Venezuela) curiara (1626).In Akawaio and Carib, [r] and [l] are allophones of a single phoneme, now usually written as r, but variously perceived as /r/ or /l/ by speakers of languages which have a distinction between these sounds.
