Etymology: < Latin corōnis, < Greek κορωνίς curved stroke or flourish at the end of a book or chapter, hence figurative in sense 1 below; also in sense 2. So in modern French.
1. The conclusion, end. Obsolete. rare.

2. Ancient Greek Grammar. A sign resembling an apostrophe ('), placed over a vowel as a mark of contraction or crasis; e.g. κα'γαθός for καὶ ἀγαθός.
