1933 E. H. Bryan Hawaiian Nature Notes 226 In Hawaiian waters these include..the tunny, the albacore, and the yellow-finned albacore, all three called ahi.
1955 A. G. Day Hawaii & its People 254 They bring in not only ahi but most of the marlin, swordfish, ono..and other food fish found in local markets.
