单词 ah so
释义

ah soint.

Brit. /ɑː ˈsəʊ/, U.S. /ˌɑ ˈsoʊ/
Forms: 1900s– ah so, 1900s– ah-so. Also reduplicated or with reduplication of the final element.
Origin: A borrowing from Japanese. Etymon: Japanese ā sō.
Etymology: < Japanese ā sō, interjection signalling attention or understanding in conversation (also a sō, assō; shortening of ā sō desu ka?, literally ‘ oh, is that so?’ < ā oh + so + desu, (polite form of da to be) + ka interrogative particle); the reception of the Japanese interjection in English has probably been influenced by association with ah int. and so adv. and conj.It is unclear whether the following earlier example shows a variant of the same word or an independent borrowing of Japanese uso, exclamation of surprise (use as interjection of uso (noun) lie):1909 W. Irwin Lett. of Japanese Schoolboy 203 ‘O-so!’ he say, ‘Must there be a war between America & England because of a mere feet-race?’
Now frequently humorous and derogatory.
Used in representations or imitations of Japanese and (by misidentification) Chinese speech, esp. to express affirmation, acknowledgement, understanding, or realization: ‘Ah!’; ‘So!’; ‘I see!’
