Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin agrostologia.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin agrostologia (1785 or earlier) < agrostis Agrostis n. + -logia -logy comb. form. Compare earlier agrostography n. Compare French agrostologie (1811 or earlier).
The branch of botany concerned with the study of grasses; (also) †a treatise dealing with this (obsolete).In quot. 1820: with reference to the title of Essai d'une nouvelle agrostographie by the French naturalist A. M. F. J. Palisot de Beauvois, published in 1812.
