Derivatives, spasmophilic adj. at spasmophilia n. Derivatives). 2. (Of a person) ‘liking, loving’ (as in oenophilic adj.), and esp. ‘having a sexual interest in’ (as in paedophilic adj. and n.). 3. (Of a thing) ‘having an affinity for’ (as in lyophilic adj.); esp. (of an organism) ‘inhabiting, growing, or flourishing in (a type of environment)’ (as in mesophilic adj.); (of a cell, etc.) ‘susceptible to staining by (a particular dye)’ (as in polychromatophilic adj.).
