Origin: Probably either (i) a borrowing from Italian. Or (ii) a borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Italian conserva; Latin conserva.
Etymology: Probably < either Italian conserva (although this is first attested later in this sense: see conserve n.) or post-classical Latin conserva (see conserve n.). In quot. 1909 apparently reborrowed < Italian conserva. Compare earlier conserve n.
Now rare.
