Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin contemporāneus.
Etymology: < classical Latin contemporāneus contemporary (see contemporaneous adj.).Compare Anglo-Norman contemporane , Middle French, French contemporain (early 14th cent. or earlier in Anglo-Norman as adjective, late 15th cent. in continental French as noun (and adjective)). Specific forms. In form contemporand at α. forms apparently with alteration of the ending after -and suffix1. The β. forms show remodelling after co- prefix.
Chiefly Scottish. Obsolete.
